The yields had a decent correlation, and then all of a sudden it diverged. Japan's currency breaking, the US currency breaking, the bond markets breaking, all at once.

Normally when the world freaks out, people run to the safety of the dollar and bonds. Now they don't want to. The safety is melting down, so the money has to go somewhere else.

So the crazy ideas come up. Maybe a facility to buy the bonds back so the yields don't pump too much — which is what Japan did. Or reprice the gold and conjure a trillion out of the blue.
